Another RiverSound property owner was recently notified by a local realtor that a scammer, pretending to be the lot owner, has been contacting real estate agents and attempting to list the property for sale.

To help protect your property, please ensure that RiverSound has your most up‑to‑date contact information, including your mailing address, phone number, and email address.

We strongly encourage all lot owners to register their property with Chowan County’s Fraud Alert system. This service notifies you by email any time a document is filed with the Register of Deeds under your name.

To register for fraud detection alerts, follow these steps:

• Visit chowancounty-nc.gov
• Go to Departments
• Select Register of Deeds -Click Fraud Detection Alerts

A local real estate agent also recommended checking Zillow at least once a month to make sure your lot has not been listed for sale without your authorization.
